She has been teaching for 4 years and regularly attends Iyengar classes and workshops and maintains her personal practice. jan :: Jan's yoga journey began 10 years ago and she has been blessed with amazing teachers, for which she is truly grateful. Having been a practicing R.N. for 28 years with a specialty in pediatrics and having raised three daughters she was entering a crossroads in her life. As a result of her growing awareness it became evident that yoga needed to become a more essential part of her daily life. After she resigned from her nursing position, she completed yoga teacher training. However, she still uses her medial background and continues to be fascinated by the physilogical benefits of the practice, and her personal studies mirror that. At the beginning, for her, yoga began just as another form of physical fitness, and yes she saw her body changing, becoming stronger, more flexible and she had less pain and tension overall. However, more subtly, her mind was finding more peace and contentent. Even in times of crisis she was able to take refuge and find stillness in her breath. As a nurturer, Jan loves each opportunity she has to share this amazing practice with others. She believes that although we have no control over the stress in our lives, we can control how our bodies respond to that stress. "Spiritual practice is not about perfecting the world but about perfecting our love for the world." nina :: Nina
is a Registered Yoga Teacher, who trained in Kripalu yoga at the
Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Massachusetts. She is also a
massage therapist and is going to school to become a nurse
practitioner. She loves to provide the opportunity for students to
deepen their awareness of their own health and happiness. She is
continually inspired by the possibilities of yoga as a tool to change
our lives and our world.roxanne :: Having
studied under Jason Schramm, Matthew Darling, Johny Kest, and, most
recently, Brian Granader, Roxanne’s outlook on her teaching is that she
is a student of yoga first and foremost. She will often say: “A student
of yoga is what I ‘am’ a teacher of Yoga is what I ‘do’”. This outlook
on her teaching creates a sense of truth behind the philosophy and
integrity to the instruction. Although her classes are challenging, she
encourages every student to find their limits and invites them to
constantly, yet gently, push those limits. Roxanne embodies this spirit
by encouraging her students that “There are many things in life that
are hard to do, but that does not mean we are not capable of doing
them…” sometimes the hardest thing is to say “I will try again
tomorrow” and to actually try. Roxanne believes that a strong practice creates a gentle spirit. Her classes are approached with love, honor, compassion and respect. It should be noted that the Vinyasa classes that Roxanne teaches are very traditional in nature: they are often silent classes, which encourages the student to find a rhythm with the breath. She utilizes adjustments so her teaching style is very hands on. In addition to teaching Yoga, Roxanne also maintains her own daily practice, pulls a 9 to 5 job, writes poetry, travels when she can, rock climbs every chance she can get and loves every minute of it all. shelley RYT :: Shelley believes in the power of yoga to positively
transform one’s mind, body, and soul, the effects of which benefit not
only the student, but also all those around them. She is inspired to
joyfully share the infinite benefits of yoga with as many beings as
possible to promote peace, love, and positive change in the world. Shelley has been fortunate to find beautiful and inspiring teachers in Michael Johnson, Matthew Darling, and many others she meets along the path. She has had the opportunity to study anatomy and yin yoga with Paul Grilley, and to practice ashtanga yoga with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Soon she will make the pilgrimage to Mysore, India, to deepen her understanding of ashtanga yoga and learn directly from the source to carry on the lineage as it is intended. In 2008, Shelley created PLAY Yoga Magazine ( playyogamagazine.com ), a free resource devoted to bringing our local yoga community together and celebrating the study, practice, and lifestyle of yoga in Metro Detroit. Join her for yoga classes and special events that will open your mind, challenge your body, and bring a lasting sense of peace and joy to your world |
